Strawberry & Black Pepper Margarita

Strawberry & Black Pepper Margarita

A little sweet, a little spicy, and not here to be basic.

If a classic margarita is the reliable ex, this one is the glow-up. Fresh strawberries bring natural sweetness, cracked black pepper adds warmth and intrigue, and tequila keeps it grounded in margarita territory. It’s flirty without being sugary, bold without being try-hard — basically perfect for Valentine’s, Galentine’s, or any excuse to pour something pink but grown-up.

Why black pepper?

Because it does what chilli thinks it’s doing.
Black pepper adds heat and aroma without hijacking the drink. It enhances the strawberry rather than overpowering it, making this margarita feel elevated instead of novelty.

Ingredients (Serves 1)

  • 45 ml tequila (blanco works best)

  • 30 ml fresh lime juice

  • 25 ml strawberry purée*

  • 15 ml triple sec or orange liqueur

  • 5–10 ml agave syrup (to taste)

  • Freshly cracked black pepper (yes, freshly cracked matters)

  • Ice

  • Optional: salt or sugar for the rim

*To make strawberry purée: blitz fresh strawberries until smooth and strain if you want it silky.

Method

  1. Prepare the glass
Run a lime wedge around the rim and dip into salt or sugar if desired. Set aside.

  2. Build the cocktail
Add tequila, lime juice, strawberry purée, triple sec, agave, and 2–3 cracks of black pepper to a shaker filled with ice.

  3. Shake hard
Shake until well chilled and slightly frothy.

  4. Strain & serve
Double strain into your prepared glass over fresh ice (or serve up if you’re feeling fancy).

  5. Finish
Garnish with a sliced strawberry and one final tiny crack of black pepper over the top.

Taste Profile

  • First sip: Bright strawberry and citrus

  • Mid-palate: Smooth tequila with subtle sweetness

  • Finish: Gentle warmth from the black pepper that lingers just enough to make you go back for another sip

Variations You’ll Love

  • Spicy Strawberry Margarita: Add a slice of jalapeño to the shaker (pepper + chilli = power couple).

  • Frozen Version: Blend everything with ice for hot February afternoons.

  • Low-Alc Option: Replace tequila with a non-alcoholic spirit and top with soda.
