Meet the Poison Frog — a neon-green cocktail with a rim that looks like it’s bleeding. It’s part science experiment, part party trick, and entirely delicious. Sweet, sharp, and just sinister enough to make you feel powerful (and possibly a little unhinged).
If Halloween had an official drink mascot, this would be it — vibrant, venomous, and fabulous.
What You’ll Need
- 45ml vodka
- 30ml Midori (or any melon liqueur)
- 15ml lime juice
- 15ml pineapple juice
- Ice
- Lime wedge for garnish
For the blood-dripping rim:
- 2 tablespoons corn syrup
- A few drops of red food colouring
🩸 How to Make It
Step 1: Make the “blood.”
Mix the corn syrup and red food colouring together until you have a thick, glossy red syrup — like fake movie blood. If it’s too thin, add a touch more corn syrup; if it’s too thick, a drop of water does the trick.
Step 2: Create the drip effect.
Hold your glass upside down and dip the rim into the “blood.” Slowly lift it upright and let the syrup ooze down the sides naturally — the slower it drips, the eerier it looks. Pop the glass in the fridge for 5–10 minutes to help it set slightly.
Step 3: Mix your poison.
In a shaker with ice, combine vodka, Midori, lime juice, and pineapple juice. Shake well until chilled.
Step 4: Assemble your masterpiece.
Pour your green potion carefully into the prepared glass (avoid disturbing the rim) and garnish with a lime wedge — or a gummy frog if you’re feeling theatrical.
🧙♀️ Pro Tip
If you’re serving these for a Halloween party, make a batch of the “blood syrup” ahead of time and prep a tray of glasses. When the lights go low and the smoke machine kicks in — all you’ll need to do is pour and serve.
This cocktail is sweet, sour, and wickedly photogenic. It’s the perfect mix of trick and treat — and looks so convincingly gory that it’ll send a chill down your guests’ spines (before warming them right back up).
So go on — pour yourself a Poison Frog and toast to a night where the drinks are dangerous and the lipstick stays red. 💋🐸
